Compartment 12
This is a landline telephone. Remember these? Does anyone still use them? I don’t think the ones at 37GGE are still connected.
My grandparents have a house in Cape Cod, that is now shared by my dad and his brothers and our families. There’s a landline there that rings fairly often. I’ve answered calls for my grandmother Judy on it and I field them for her. She hasn’t been to that house in years and it’s very unlikely that she’ll ever go there again before she dies.
That’s a very sad thought is one that I know many in my family think about. We would so love to spend time with her out there, but it seems an insurmountable task for her and might be too much to handle at this point. Maybe it’ll happen but I don’t know that it would even be a good idea, as we’d basically have to force her into the car, as my uncle did when she got her Covid vaccine. It would be really nice though. She loves it there.
