Compartment 9

This can of Canada Dry from the 1990s had been sitting for at least 30 years in my grandma’s basement in a small closet used to store wine, paper records, and ski equipment.

Unlike other beverages kept in that room, it was on its own – not in a package, not with others of its kind, and only a single serving can.

It is incredibly filthy and disgusting. Amazingly, it still has a small amount of liquid in it.

I imagine that my grandfather Henry bought it at a nearby store, brought it with him into the wine cellar/ski room, set it down on a high shelf, and forgot about it forever.
